\u201cI know you\u2019re not suppose to use the word FREE in the subject line of your emails because it might send your email to their spam folders. But, what about using the word free in the email themselves? Is that safe? Does the entire email get scanned for trigger words, or just the subject line?\u201d<\/p>\n

I have used the word free 3 times so far, nope make that 4.<\/p>\n
Not sure where he heard you are not supposed to use the word in the subject line as I just did it and in capital letters.<\/p>\n

One of my highest open rates came from the subject line:<\/p>\n
Free?<\/p>\n
Got a 26.6% open rate on a list that normally got a 5% open rate back when I tracked such a useless metric.<\/p>\n
So from what I can gather from my own results – it is fine to use.<\/p>\n
I used it a lot in this very email.<\/p>\n
Will it land in the spam folder?<\/p>\n
Don’t know, don’t care.<\/p>\n
The people who want what you have to offer will find you regardless of where you show up.<\/p>\n
